On behalf of KidGen I would like to invite you to the Renal Genetics Symposium to be held at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne on the 3rd and 4th of November 2016. This year the symposium has expanded and over 2-days will feature talks by clinicians, scientists and researchers from across Australia. It is aimed at nephrologists, geneticists, genetic counsellors, metabolic physicians, and researchers interested in kidney development and disease, metabolic kidney disease and functional genomics.
Despite the packed programme there will be time for questions and debate, each session will be chaired by both a scientist and a clinician which will lend itself to broad ranging discussion of the topics.
The schedule is broad, with sessions devoted to cystic kidney disease, nephrotic syndrome, functional genomics, registries, and metabolic kidney disease. But within each session there is great depth, as excellent speakers will cover different aspects of each topic. For example, within the registries session Prof Stephen McDonald will discuss what an established registry, ANZDATA, can offer to genetics, Dr Hugh McCarthy will outline the aims of ARRK, Mr Sebastian King will explain his disease specific registry focussing on VACTERL, Prof Rowan Walker will discuss the role of inherited kidney disease in ROKD and Ass Prof Allison Tong will examine patient perspectives on genetic kidney disease.
I encourage you to read the schedule (available online at www.kidgen.org.au) and then register for the symposium using the link below. Numbers are limited so please register early.
For the first year we are charging a fee to attend the symposium, reflecting the growing interest in this topic, and this will enable us to provide catering which will facilitate discussion and networking at breaks. If you feel that you should be eligible for a concession, please don’t hesitate to email me at KidGen@rch.org.au.
For those travelling from interstate or overseas a limited number of rooms have been held in the Larwill hotel adjacent to the Royal Children’s Hospital. These can be booked by ringing the reservations team directly on (03) 9032 9111 or emailing email@example.com and quoting the meeting name “Renal Genetics Symposium” before the end of August.
A limited number of childcare places may be available for children under 5-years, if you are interested please email KidGen@rch.org.au with “Childcare Query” as the subject line, before the end of August. Expressing facilities are also available onsite.
